"'The Acoustic Verses' by Green Carnation" by Bill Vogel III
March 13, 2006 A.D.
Even Metal has its softer moments. Green Carnation takes a lush, yet powerful journey with their 2006 opus, "The Acoustic Verses" [The End Records], is a stunning Progressive Metal wonder. The entirely acoustic release is folksy and bleak, powerful and poetic....
It is a stark, sublime balance between melodious darkness and tender melancholy. The clean, deep vocals sail over bleak, beautiful instrumentals that have a breezy, epic quality. Green Carnation has a shining, tenebrous glory.
Symphony elements add to the mood. The best cuts include the stark depths of "Alone," "High Tide Waves," "Maybe?," and the tranquil intensity of "The Burden Is Mine...Alone." Beautiful and mellow, Green Carnation has an eclectic sound that is vast, and visionary.
Green Carnation is an often subtle, yet powerful act worthy of admiration. This one is for the more adventurous listener. Stay savage. Farewell.
