“Strata (Self-Titled)” by Bill Vogel III
January 27, 2006 A.D.
An overlooked gem of 2005, Strata bring Melodic Moodcore back with a brilliant edginess. With a style more akin to Sevendust than the tired sounding Korn, they rely heavily on melodious stomp. Their self-titled debut, released by Wind-Up Music, is a sublime effort with plenty enough fire to keep it interesting.
Strata clean vocals are sparsely punched-up with light growls. Discordant guitar flourishes add a uniquely twisted beauty to their style. It's emotive and energetic—Strata brings Hard Rock a new level of intensity.
Songs of note include the darkly beautiful “I Will Breathe Fire,” “Never There,” the ripping “Piece By Piece,” and “Today.” Strata burns it down.
In summary, Strata is a fiery wonder of Modern Melodic Metal. Stay savage. Farewell.
Related Bands: Sevendust, Boysetsfire, Seether, Staind, Cold, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, etc.
Keep the faith, and the AGGRESSION.
