"'Prophets Of Doom' by Pro-Pain" by Bill Vogel III
May 20, 2005 A.D.
When it comes to solid, no-frills Hardcore, Pro-Pain is a solid perpetrator. Their 2005 release, "Prophets Of Doom" [Candlelight Records], offers nothing new while still being a good opus. It's Pro-Pain-the good, the bad, and the gut-wrenching ugly....
Pro-Pain has a rough hewn vocal assault that is a slightly growled rumble. Hardcore with a Powercore twang, the Pro-Pain sound is dense and relentless. While being musically appealing for their punishing style, Pro-Pain's leftwing lyrical rants are heavy-handed and tedious. But otherwise, they are very good.
The notable tracks are "Torn," the bruising "Getting Over," and "The Prisoner." Pro-Pain remains the same.
In conclusion, Pro-Pain is doing it just like always-good, meaty Hardcore wildness. But this is a release for the long-time fan only. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Redemption Process' by Anorexia Nervosa" by Bill Vogel III
May 19, 2005 A.D.
In the cutting-edge genre of Industrial Death Metal, Anorexia Nervosa is a paragon of monumental greatness. Forging a pure hybrid of Industrial, Gothic, and Blackened Death Metal, their brand of Extreme Metal is truly epic. Anorexia Nervosa's 2004 opus, "Redemption Process" [The End/Listenable Records], outshines many similar bands with a dark brilliance.
Shrill, raw-edged growls mix with Gothic keyboards, frenzied rhythms, samples, and Symphonic elements. The guitars are tight and ferocious as Hell. Bleak, stark, and beautiful, Anorexia Nervosa is perfectly murderous. The Abyss is staring into you....
The best of these fierce visions includes the rampaging "Antinferno," "Codex-Veritas," the dark ode "An Amen," and the abysmal glory of "The Shining." Anorexia Nervosa is a shining abyss, monstrous and miraculous.
Overall, Anorexia Nervosa is sublimely harsh. This one is a tenebrous wonder. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'They Are As Us' by Rising Moon" by Bill Vogel III
Friday, May 13, 2005 A.D.
It has been ages, the early days of Sentenced, since Melodic Death Metal has been this darkly melodic and epic. Bleakly euphonious and starkly powerful, Rising Moon is perfect, beautiful aggression. This Italian band's 2005 opus, "They Are As Us" [Crash Music Inc.], has a masterful melancholy to its fury.
Rising Moon has a strong Doom/Gothic influence as well as Swedish Death Thrash, which fuse into a brilliant Dark Metal gloominess when combined with their Melodic Death Metal aspects. Solid, mid-range growls and some clean vocals are used. The guitars are deeply melodic and tenebrous. The rhythms have a loose, but intense feel. Some samples are implemented as well. There is a dark, emotional energy to Rising Moon's style that is undeniable.
Rising Moon is a bleak wonder.
The best of these sonic razors includes "Escape & Operate," the abyss intensity of "Death's Colors," "Swedish Metal," "Contact," and grim glory of "They Are As Us." Rising Moon is both severe and serene, as strange as that may sound.
Overall, Rising Moon one of the best bands of 2005. This release is a stark, sublime epic. Stay savage. Farewell.
