"'The End Of Heartache' by Killswitch Engage" by Bill Vogel III
November 18, 2004 A.D.
One of the greatest Metalcore/Aggro Metal bands in the world, Killswitch Engage, has returned with their masterpiece. The 2004 opus, "The End Of Heartache" [Roadrunner Records], is a Hardcore sharpened display of Dark Aggro Metal perfection. It is no wonder this act has such a revered following.
The Killswitch Engage sound is a powerful fusion of aesthetics-intense Metalcore, melodious darkness, and poetic lyrics. Highly skilled guitars change between brutal blasts and tenebrous sublimity. Ferocious, double-kick drums stitch everything together. Howard Jones, their new vocalist, alternates between pristine, deep vocals and gut-wrenching growls.
The best of these amazing cuts includes the flawless intensity and melancholy of "The End Of Heartache," "A Bid Farewell," the harsh glory of the vampire ode "When Darkness Falls," "Rose Of Sharyn," and "Breathe Life." Killswitch Engage is brutal, beautiful, and starkly poetic.
In summary, Killswitch Engage is one of the most incredible bands around. So let that Killswitch Engage. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Redimus' by Hecate Enthroned" by Bill Vogel III
November 16, 2004 A.D.
Melodic and psychotic, Hecate Enthroned cuts a solid path of unique Black Metal fury. Their 2004 release, "Redimus" [Candlelight Records], is a furious work of beautiful bleakness. Hecate Enthroned are quite good.
Gaining some notoriety as being an offshoot of the infamous Cradle Of Filth, Hecate Enthroned has similar style. There are all the Black Metal fundamentals here-shrill screeching vocals, moments of blinding speed, and harsh brilliance. The melodic elements are strong, and essential, to the Hecate Enthroned style. And it is natural and uncontrived, unlike many other similar acts.
The best of these vicious little cuts includes "As Fire," the piano tinged assault of the disjointed epic "An Eternal Belief," the acoustic guitar instrumental "Morbera," "No One Hears," and "Chose Misanthropy." Hecate Enthroned makes it jagged and catchy.
Overall, Hecate Enthroned is a ravaging barrage of stark beauty. Stay savage. Farewell.
