"'Elegy For The Weak' by Occult" by Bill Vogel III
September 28, 2004 A.D.
One of the greatest Brutal Death Metal bands ever, Occult, has returned with a burning fury. Their 2004 opus of blunt force brilliance, the aptly titled "Elegy For The Weak" [Candlelight Records], is a superb example of the beauty of brutality. It's harsh and enthralling-no wonder their legends.
Crushing grooves blast through dense barrages of frenzied, air-tight rhythms. A combination of shrieking growls and guttural roars crown this storm of razor-sharp aggression. Occult is dynamic, intense, and mesmerizing.
The best of these beasts includes "Reapers Call," the cataclysmic glory of "Nocturnal Predator," "Nuclear Torment," the furious assault of "Obsessed By The Grave," and "Disturbing The Dead." Occult has an epic harshness that is amazing and powerful.
Overall, Occult has only gotten better with time. "Elegy For The Weak" is destined to be a Brutal Death Metal classic. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Human Error: Ways To Self Destruction' by Crionics" by Bill Vogel III
September 9, 2004 A.D.
In the blackened depths of eternity, darkness shines bright. Crionics plays an intricate form of Melodic Black/Swedish Death Metal that is as ornate as it is harsh. Their 2004 opus, "Human Error: Ways To Self Destruction" [Candlelight Records], surpasses the de rigueur of most of the modern Black Metal into a vast, tenebrous expansiveness.
Shrill shrieks are spiked with rampaging growls. Highly melodic, blackened fury is at the abysmal heart of what Crionics is. At times relentlessly harsh, Crionics has a twisted sublimity. Keyboards and symphonic elements have a strong influence, mixing with fiery guitar barrages and blistering rhythms. Crionics is utterly merciless....
The most noteworthy cuts include the abrasive brilliance of "Lunatic Gate," "Crionics," "Sacrosanct Strength," and the dynamic viciousness of "Episode Of The Falling Star."
Overall, Crionics is violently brilliant. They have sharpened the edges of Melodic Black Metal to a new, visceral intensity. Stay savage. Farewell.
