"'For Maggots To Devour' by Torture Killer" by Bill Vogel III
August 6, 2004 A.D.
Brutal, catchy, and sharper than a razor-wire smile: Torture Killer is the new, killer Deathrock Metal monster. Their excellent 2004 opus, "For Maggots To Devour" [Candlelight Records], adds new edge and vitality to this underappreciated genre. Torture Killer is mercilessly brilliant.
The Torture Killer dynamic features deep, gutting grooves that bleed power. Solid, pristine growls crown highly charged guitar barrages and tight, insane drumming. Torture Killer doesn't waste any pain....
The best of these cruelly cool cuts includes the primal "Motivated To Kill," "Gore Terror," the savage glory of "No Time To Bleed" (featuring an audio from the Sci-Fi/Horror movie with Jesse Ventura, and Arnold Schwarzenegger), and "Flesh Breaks The Open Wounds." Torture Killer is stunning, vicious, and totally intense. (Look out Entombed!)
In final thought, Torture Killer wrecks without defect. They are utterly cool. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'White 2' by Sunn 0)))" by Bill Vogel III
July 23, 2004 A.D.
When it comes to big, Old School Drone/Doom Metal, few can match Sunn O))). Their 2004 opus of dread, titled "White 2" [Southern Lord Records], is a three song ode to atmospheric massiveness. This one is for the true Doomfreaks alone....
Non-Doom fanatics will find it hard to love, but devotees will find it even harder to shake. Expansive seas of droning, crushing reverberation awash in gut-wrenching power make Sunn 0))) a unique experience. It is an acquired taste, this melancholic creep of musical roar. Call it noise with a lead-lined soul.
Some of the songs are short, if you call 11 minutes short. The two best cuts are the dull rumbler "Helloween," and the 25 minute joyless glimmer of "Decay 2 (Nihil's Maw)." "Bass Aliens" is interesting as well.
Overall, Sunn 0))) is for the total Doomfreaks. And for them it is a must. Stay savage. Farewell.
