"'Left In Kowloon' by Premonitions Of War"
by
Bill Vogel III

June 16, 2004 A.D.

Brutal and amazing, Premonitions Of War leaves a trail of beautiful destruction in their wake. Their 2004 epic, "Left In Kowloon" [Victory Records], is an epic of Metalcore brutality purified in the forge of Hell's flames. Premonitions Of War is harsh, dynamic, and extremely amazing.

The fact is, Premonitions Of War is as brutal as Hell. Tight, frenzied rhythms pulverize through massive bombardments of crushing guitar roar. The vocals are a fierce, relentless barrage of skull-crushing, shrieking growls. Premonitions Of War has an utter, savage charm that is like the inside view of an auto body crusher.

The best of these vicious wonders includes the snarling radiance of "Night Soil," "One Constant Volume," the obliterating "Stolen Breath," "Cables Hum Overhead," "Dim Light District," and the ominous intensity of "Mother Night Revisited." Premonitions Of War is one of the BEST NEW BANDS of 2004.

Don't skip this one! Premonitions Of War is simply stunning....

In final thoughts, Premonitions Of War is as powerful a 3,000 pound daisy cutter bomb strike. This one is guaranteed to crack your spine. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Gone Forever' by God Forbid"
by
Bill Vogel III

June 15, 2004 A.D.

The Metalcore band God Forbid is a wonder of violence, mixing pure primal power with a graceful quality that is beyond epic. Their 2004 opus, "Gone Forever" [Century Media Records], takes a solid Metalcore aesthetic a tempers it with blasts of Grindcore and melodic elements. God Forbid is charged with extremity.

Acidic, shrill growled vocals burn through dense waves of crushing guitars and tight, concussive rhythms. They sometimes use some clean vocals, which are at best so-so. But overlooking that one weakness, God Forbid is still quite exceptional.

The best of these bestial numbers includes the brutal "Better Days," "Gone Forever," the harsh dynamic of "Antihero," "Washed-Out World," and the visceral "Soul Engraved." God Forbid is intense and insanely cool.

Overall, God Forbid is extremely talented. This one is a Metalcore must.... Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Burning Inside' by On The Rise"
by
Bill Vogel III

June 7, 2004 A.D.

On The Rise is Hardcore at its best-powerful, aggressive, and catchy as the plague. Their 2004 opus of detuned glory, titled "Burning Inside" [Bridge Nine Records], is a wonder of primal dynamics. On The Rise breaks-up the AOR Punk mediocrity with their pure, pristine hostility. This is the real thing....

The On The Rise assault tactic is rhythmically groove-heavy with some raw, jaggedly edged charm. Detuned guitars roar through aggressive vocal acrobatics. Hook is never sacrificed for speed though, and this subtle detail shows. On The Rise does it with wild style.

The most notable cuts are "Comotion," the powerful whirlwind of snarling angst "Burning Inside," "On The Rise," the charging "So Slowly Fade," and "Severed Ties." On The Rise is one killer Old School NYHC band.

In summary, On The Rise takes the best qualities of Hardcore and truly shines. This is perfect aggression. Stay savage. Farewell.
