"'Remember When' by Skare Tactic"

In the genre of modern, primal Metalcore some bands just stand-out. One such act is Skare Tactic, whose 2003 release "Remember When" [Thorp Records] is a rough hewn gem. It bruises down to the bone.

Shrill, growled crown raw-edged, metallic Hardcore fury. Rhythms are loose, but intense. The overall feel has an efficient, harsh dynamic with the massiveness of a 20 ton load of bricks. This is very cool....

Best cuts include "Collapse," the crushing cadence of "Dead To Me" (which starts with an audio sample from the movie "Road To Perdition"), "Fracture," "Today Tomorrow Forever," and the blistering "Remember When." Skare Tactic is simply killer-as brilliant as a napalm blast.

In conclusion, Skare Tactic is Metalcore with an Old School Hardcore flair. Let the mayhem begin. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light' by My Dying Bride"

From the burning darkness returns the legendary masters of Gothic/Doomdeath Metal, My Dying Bride. Being one of the originating trinity of the Doomdeath sound (along with Paradise Lost and Anathema), they have earned an epic reputation for greatness. Their 2004 opus, "Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light" [Peaceville/Snapper Records], continues that tradition.

In the mid 1990's My Dying Bride had abandoned their pure Doomdeath roots, going to a Gothic Metal style that incorporated violins, etc. Recently though, they have melded the two styles...achieving a new, more eclectic aggression. And it is excellent.

Moody, powerful instrumentals mix with more somber, serene atmospherics. Clean, Gothic vocals smash like waves amongst intense growls. Vocal samples add a surreal edge to the ethereal storm. My Dying Bride never ceases to amaze.

The best of these melancholic monsters includes the ferocious "And My Fury Stands Ready," "Catherine Blake," the bleak glory of "The Scarlet Garden," and "The Wreckage of My Flesh." It's eloquent and extreme....

In summary, My Dying Bride is still one of the best Doomdeath Metal bands around. This one is a must for any fan of the genre. Stay savage. Farewell.
