"'Time Of Despair' by Entwine"
by

Sadly, in 2002 when Entwine's brilliant opus "Time Of Despair" [Century Media/Spinefarm Records] was missed by most in the deluge of Aggro and Hardcore releases. It is a true shame, because this is one of the greatest Gothic Metal releases ever. It's emotional intensity and bleak glory is epic.

This Finnish band is amazing. Beautiful sorrow is mixed with melodic, dark power. Clean, deep Goth vocals sail upon an abyss torrent of pristine, melancholic instrumentals-a dynamic fusion of electric and acoustic elements (i.e. violins, etc.). And the lyrics are like modern Gothic/Romantic poetry.

Entwine is as amazing as a solar eclipse, and just as starkly sublime.

The best of these tenebrous odes includes "Nothing Left To Say," the sad intensity of "Burden," "Falling Apart," the uplifting gloom of "Learn To Let Go," and "Until The End." This is the beauty of sorrow, and Entwine creates it with brilliance and flair.

In summary, this is Entwine's finest work yet. And it is destined to be a classic. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'The Silent Circus' by Between The Buried And Me"
by
Bill Vogel III

February 12, 2004 A.D.

There's nothing like pure brutality to electrify and amaze. The Metalcore outfit Between The Buried And Me has a harsh brilliance all their own. Their 2003 opus, "The Silent Circus" [Victory Records], combines extreme elements of Discordant Hardcore and Metalcore ferocity into a bludgeoning, sublime roar. Between The Buried And Me is crusty and cool....

Chaotic waves of discordant guitar bleed violently through massive blast-beats and crushing rhythms. The relentless, growled vocals burn like an acid through the intense instrumentals. Between The Buried And Me has a harsh, dynamic quality that is stunning.

The best of these beasts includes the ugly glory of "Camilla Rhodes," "Aesthetic," "Mordecai," the primal radiance of "The Need For Repetition" (followed by a killer hidden track), and "Reaction." It's simple to get-Between The Buried And Me is perfectly brutal.

Overall, Between The Buried And Me is a shotgun blast to the face of mediocrity. And it is good. Stay savage. Farewell.
