"Finger Eleven (Self-Titled)" by Bill Vogel III
January 7, 2004 A.D.
The Canadian band Finger Eleven is a cut-above their Moodcore Metal counterparts, surpassing the once great and definitive act of that genre-Korn. Their 2003 self-titled opus [Wind-Up Entertainment] is a brooding display of highly skilled Dark Moodcore dynamics. It's powerful, melodic melancholy cuts to the bone with a poetic aggressiveness.
Deep, melodious grooves dredge through the crystalline ferocity of the Finger Eleven musical sideshow. Intensity is the rule, and it shows in every song. Even the mellow songs have a tenebrous edginess. The guitars have a stark, moody power-both electric and acoustic are used. Rhythms are loose, with a fluid esthetic. The clean, midrange vocals pack the perfect amount of punch for this brand of metallic mayhem.
The best of these killer cuts includes the pristine, poetic darkness of "Obvious Heart," the smashing "Stay In Shadow," "Therapy," the love song "Complicated Questions," and "Absent Elements." Finger Eleven is incredibly cool.
Overall, Finger Eleven has outdone themselves. This is their best release yet. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'...And Time Begins' by Decrepit Birth" by Bill Vogel III
Tuesday, January 06, 2004 A.D.
Created with one intent, the band Decrepit Birth has succeeded in creating a style of true brutality. Their 2003 opus of brute force glory, titled "...And Time Begins" [Unique Leader Records], is sheer, stark power unleashed. (This act features former members of Dying Fetus, Deprecated, and Misery Index.)
Brutal Death Metal is what Decrepit Birth is all about, and they do it brilliantly. Fusing elements of Deathrash and Grind, a maelstrom of power explodes from the primal depths. Decrepit Birth's blasting, pulverizing style crushes-guttural growls interlock with tight, raw rhythms. It is a continuous onslaught of visceral intensity. Decrepit Birth simply destroys....
Of these vicious cuts, the best ones include the crazed "Concepting The Era," "Of Genocide," "...And Time Begins," the ravenous assault of "Condemned To Nothingness," and "Prelude To The Apocalypse." Decrepit Birth is phenomenal in their harsh sublimity.
In summary, Decrepit Birth kills. This is one unbelievable band to watch for. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Rebuilt' by Brick Bath" by Bill Vogel III
Friday, January 02, 2004 A.D.
Remember a little old band called Pantera? Well they ain't nothin' compared to Brick Bath. It is a bold statement, I know. But it is true.
Brick Bath's 2003 opus, "Rebuilt" [Crash Music, Inc.], takes Powercore to the next level of ferocity. While Pantera was hammering-out crap over the past several years, Brick Bath was mastering the fine art of brutality. Their hard work and genius shines through....
(And I like Pantera, so don't even start on that hate mail.)
Intense, forceful rhythms bleeding sheer groove drive raw power mixed with brilliant guitar leads. Brick Bath has mastered the Powercore assault. Shrill growls drill through the relentless napalm blasts of utter fury. Brick Bath is stunning and addictive.
The best of these visceral cuts includes "Brutalize," the smash-crackle-stomp of "At The Edge," "Said," "False State," the killer cadence of "Habit Forming," and "War Inside." Brick Bath destroys the rules-their raging without mercy, without retreat.
Overall, Brick Bath has created one of the finest releases of the year. So get "Rebuilt." Stay savage. Farewell.
