"'Firedemon' by Carnal Forge"
by
Bill Vogel III

December 19, 2003 A.D.

Some things defy the laws of physics. One of those is the 2001 opus, titled "Firedemon" [Century Media Records], by Carnal Forge. Carnal Forge takes a relentless form of Swedish Death Metal and gives it a brutal sensibility. Blasting, breakneck guitars scrape against frenzied rhythms, catchy melodies with a crazed virulence, and shrill Death growl vocals. Brutal, hook driven rhythms stitch these distinct elements together into a tight, vicious work of brilliant mayhem.

The best cuts include "Covered With Fire (I'm Hell)," "Pull The Trigger," the aptly named "A Revel In Violence," "Defacer," the bludgeoning "I Smell Like Death (Son Of A Bastard)," and my favorite, the brutally ferocious "Too Much Hell Ain't Enough Hell For Me." This is a feral display of true violent beauty.

In conclusion, this is a pure, relentless onslaught of brutish Swedish Style Death Metal with a fiery rage. So revel in the violence. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Evolution' by Pissing Razors"
by
Bill Vogel III

December 18, 2003 A.D.

It's almost impossible to go wrong with the band Pissing Razors. Every release is superb, and their 2003 opus "Evolution" [Spitfire Records] maintains that exceptional tradition of brilliant brutality. Pissing Razors plays a razor-sharp brand of Tribal/Industrial Death Metal. And it is always good.

Their new vocalist is top-notch. His virulent combination of powerful growls and clean howls crowns the roaring grooves that bleed from every song. The intense guitars bite in deeply, creating a huge, chunky hook that rides the tribal drum beats. Pissing Razors is incredibly cool-totally addictive.

The best of these amazing, fiery cuts includes the locomotive assault of "Two Face Devil," "Perseverance," the mechanized crunch of "Takedown," "Evolution," the mournful glory of "Fall Away," and the exceptionally excellent "Hanging On The Cross." "Evolucion" has Spanish lyrics-a nice little tangent. Pissing Razors is amazing.

Overall, Pissing Razors has created their best album yet in "Evolution." This is one ascension that should not be missed. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Superstar Destroyer' by Genocide Superstar"
by
Bill Vogel III

December 17, 2003 A.D.

What can I say about Genocide Superstar? This cool band is a Nasum side-project, and they skillfully combine elements of Grunge, Noisecore, and Grindcore into a catchy, brutal style. Their 2003 debut, "Superstar Destroyer" [Relapse Records], is a relentless assault of pure, intense aggression.

Genocide Superstar is fierce, with a primal catchiness that digs in deeply and then totally destroys. Primitive, Hardcore rhythms rip through the maelstrom of blistering guitars, gravelly yells, and shrill growling vocals. Think of an energetic fusion of Motorhead, the Unsane, and early Napalm Death-and then Genocide Superstar is even better. It's Grindrock fury with a maximum amount of damage....

The best of these shredding epics includes "Outlaw Song," "Air-A Prelude To Hell," the fiery "Destroyer Of Worlds," "Hatestomp," "Warchild," the visceral glory of "The Hateball Is Rolling...," and the boogie aggression of "Final Descent." Genocide Superstar kills! And it is excellent.

In conclusion, Genocide Superstar has released a brilliant, unique opus. It's one of the best of the year. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan' by Antaeus"
by
Bill Vogel III

December 17, 2003 A.D.

Feel like some vicious, raw as a bare nerve Black Metal with a Thrash Metal relentlessness? Here's the fix. The French Black Metal named Antaeus has unleashed a ravenous fury in their 2001 debut, titled "Cut Your Flesh And Worship Satan" [Necropolis Records]. It's a graceless, tenebrous work of utter, furious savagery. And it's a stunning and cool opus.

Frenetic tempos are the soul of the Antaeus' sound. Raw, Black Metal shrieks are cast over speedy, primal rhythms and wild, hell tempered guitars. Synergy makes for a unity of effect that is a primordial brimstone of chaotic beauty and sharpened musical mayhem.

The most fiery cuts include "Nihil Khaos," "Bleeding Blasphemy," "Those With No Eyes," and the absolutely savage "Inner War" which is my favorite. It is a maddening aesthetic, and Antaeus captures it perfectly. There is a wicked charm to their art that I enjoy very much.

In conclusion, this is truly savage Black Metal not made for the faint of heart. But it was created for the black of heart. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Evanesce' by Anatomy Of A Ghost"
by
Bill Vogel III

December 16, 2003 A.D.

The ever-expanding genre of Melodic Hardcore has produced some fine acts lately. One of those bands is Anatomy Of A Ghost, whose slightly more adventurous style combines Emo, Pop Punk, and Melodic Hardcore. Their 2003 opus, "Evanesce" [Imusic Records], is a catchy mix of syrup and stomp.

The instrumentals fuse modern, aggressive Hardcore power with softer, more melodic portions with some avant-garde, somewhat discordant elements. The vocals jump between a whiny, clean howls and shrieking growls. Fans of A Static Lullaby will appreciate the Anatomy Of A Ghost dynamic.

The best of these riotous glimmers includes "Last Transmission," "On To Morning Stars," the meandering wallop of "Since Yesterday," "Beauty Is In Its Embrace," and the melodic intensity of "Streetlights, Empty Wells." Anatomy Of A Ghost is fierce, fiery, and finely tuned Hardcore for the new generation.

In summary, Anatomy Of A Ghost creates a killer brand of Emo/Melodic Hardcore. Stay savage. Farewell.
