"'Murder Metal' by Macabre"
by
Bill Vogel III

Wednesday, November 12, 2003 A.D.

Brutal, bizarre, and bloody-Macabre makes Horror Grindcore with a gory twist of black humor. Their 2003 opus, "Murder Metal" [Seasons Of Mist Records], is a ghastly mixture of serial killers, Boston Hardcore, and Grindcore greatness. Macabre is as unique as a crime scene.

The Macabre schema has one gutting principle, and that is horrific intensity. Shrill, growled vocals are seasoned lightly by humorous, clean ones. Blunt, odd-timed rhythms thunder through smashing, roaring guitars. Macabre is cool, and one of a kind.

Some of the morbid glories from this slaughterhouse menagerie include "You're Dying To Be With Me," "Acid Bath Vampire," the murderous charm of "Jack The Ripper," "The Iceman," and "Werewolf Of Bebburg." Macabre takes no prisoners...just dead bodies.

Overall, Macabre is as killer as they come. "Murder Metal" is a bloody, gore-soaked masterpiece. Stay savage. Farewell.

Dead Horse, Lamb Of God, etc.

Keep the faith, and the AGGRESSION.

"'Confession' by Ill Nino"
by
Bill Vogel III

November 9, 2003 A.D.

From a glimmer to a scream.... Ill Nino has returned in 2003 with the solid follow-up opus "Confession" [Roadrunner Records], a powerful work of Tribal/Melodic Aggro Metal magnificence. There is a stronger use of melody, but without sacrificing aggression.

Ill Nino is intense and beautiful-smashing a unique, irresistible Latino influence into the Aggro Metal dynamic. Clean, harmonious vocals mix with shrill growls. Latin rhythms and tribal drumming fluidly intermingle with acoustic and harsh, guitar blasts. Ill Nino is sublimely severe.

Songs of noteworthy excellence include "Numb," "When It Cuts," the angst-driven power of the melodious "How Can I Live," "Te Amo...I Hate You," and "Cleansing." Ill Nino makes a brutality all their own.

Overall, this is another Ill Nino release worthy of praise. Stay savage. Farewell.
