"'The Bitter Selfcaged Man' by Divine Souls"
by

From the stirring abyss where creativity and chaos forge the flames of inspiration, Divine Souls has created the epic opus "The Bitter Selfcaged Man" [The End/Scarlet Records]. Their stunning brand of Progressive/Melodic Swedish Death is absolutely amazing.

Shrill growls, sometimes mixed with clean vocals, hammers through very melodic, progressive guitar blasts. The rhythms are ferocious and powerful-the drumming is razor-sharp and vicious. And even with their extremely melodic sound, Divine Souls is still wickedly fierce.

The most notable of these killer tracks include "When Life Slips Away," the powerhouse cut "Bleed," "Silhouette," "Divided," "Bitter Selfcaged Man," and the fiery "Empty Words." Divine Souls is brilliant; this is poetic aggression.

Overall, Divine Souls is simple incredible. This is one of the BEST RELEASES of 2003. Stay savage. Farewell.

"'Revolution/Revolucion (Digipak)' by Ill Nino"
by
Bill Vogel III

April 10, 2003 A.D.

The band Ill Nino is one of a new breed of Melodic Aggro Metal outfits storming the horizon. Their new opus, "Revolution/Revolucion" (Digipak) [Roadrunner Records], mixes moments of crystalline melody with bursts of sheer rampaging aggression. It's a balancing polarized extremes of heaviness-the soft, stark, and somewhat serene burning with brutality and harshness in the same flame.

Clean melodious vocals are interlaced with shrill rabid growls. The instrumentals are just as opposed, but they fuse perfectly into this dynamic, powerful assault. Ill Nino is as startling as they are amazing.

The most ferociously cool tracks include "I Am Loco," the intense "God Save Us," "If You Still Hate Me," "What Comes Around," "Unreal," and the blasting "Rip Out Your Eyes." These are the cuts that really obliterate.

Plus, this re-issued version has five additional tracks, including the killer "Fallen," "Eye For An Eye" (live), and "God Save Us" (live). And there two Spanish language cuts, "What Comes Around" and "Unreal." These cuts are a nice extra.

Overall, Ill Nino has created an excellent release in "Revolution/Revolucion." So, let the revolution begin. Stay savage. Farewell.
