"'Turbulent Times' by Grief"

The wayworn journey of the soul builds the ruins of beautiful, serene desolations. And from this moiling chaos creativity is born. Such is the case with Grief, the fierce fathers of Sludge, Doomdeath Metal.
Their newest slab of carnage, "Turbulent Times" [Southern Lord Records], is a choice collection rarities that will please the most ferocious fans of Doom Metal mayhem. It assembles all of their split 7", 10", and demos into one dismal, powerful package. And it is excellent.
Slow, sludgy guitar din roars like black static rolling across a dead sky. The shrill growls of the vocals drill through the massive wall of sublime noise. Grief is harsh, intense, and amazing.
Tracks of blistering note include the crushing "Falling Apart," "Lifeless," the oppressive brilliance of "I Hate You (Unreleased Version)," "Earthworm (Unreleased Version)," and "Bored" (from the "Torso" sessions). Every cut is brutal.
Overall, this is a must for any Doom Metal freak. It's all about the dreadful glory of it all. Stay savage. Farewell.
